Remote exams you can trust, judged by people

Examo locks down and records the exam on the student's computer, whatever tool the teacher built it in: a Moodle quiz, a Word, Excel or PDF file, or an external exam application. Every flag goes to a person, never to an algorithm.

What is Examo?

Examo is a remote exam proctoring solution built by LS2 Innovation for colleges and universities. It is a native Windows and macOS application that frames and records an exam, whatever tool the teacher used to build it: a Moodle quiz, a Word, Excel or PDF document, or an external exam application. Examo combines live proctoring, continuous recording and automated detection of risk events, locks out unauthorized websites, applications and AI tools, and hands every incident to a person for review. It uses no artificial intelligence, collects no biometric data and stores its data in Canada.

Proctoring

Three ways to proctor, combined as you need

Watch live, review later, or let Examo point you to the moments that matter. Most institutions use all three.

01

Live proctoring

Proctors watch each student's camera and screen in real time, take attendance in a waiting room, and step in when a student needs help.

02

Recording for review

Camera, microphone, every connected screen, keyboard and mouse are recorded continuously for the whole exam, ready to review afterwards.

03

Automated detection

Examo flags unauthorized applications, websites and AI tools, loss of focus and window or screen changes, on a timestamped timeline.

Proctoring & lockdown

A locked exam window: web browsers, chat and AI tools blocked; calculator, assistive technology and permitted documents allowed

Lockdown

Locks out what isn't allowed. Leaves in what is.

Each exam has its own rules. Examo enforces them on the student's computer and keeps a record of every attempt to break them.

  • Websites, applications and AI tools blockedChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and other AI sites, apps and extensions are blocked like any other unauthorized resource.
  • Focus and screen changes detectedLeaving the exam window, switching windows or changing screens is detected and time-stamped.
  • Permitted resources per examOpen-book exam, calculator, a reference document, even an AI tool: the teacher decides what stays available.
  • Assistive technology stays onScreen readers, text-to-speech and writing aids authorized for a student are never blocked by the lockdown.
Post-exam review: the recording, a timestamped event timeline, a reviewer's decision and a spreadsheet export

Incidents

Evidence for a person to judge, not a verdict

Examo documents what happened. A teacher decides what it means. No score, no automatic sanction.

  • Timestamped event timelineEvery detection is placed on the exam timeline and linked to the matching moment in the recording.
  • Alerts during the examProctors and teachers are notified when something is detected, while there is still time to act.
  • Reports you can fileAn Excel report of events and alerts, with the corresponding video and audio recordings for validation.

How it works

An exam cycle in six steps

From the student information system to the final report, with no manual follow-up needed while the exam runs.

Step 1

Synchronize

Exams, groups and students arrive automatically from your student information system.

Step 2

Create & schedule

Pick the exam tool, then set the access window, duration and buffer period.

Step 3

Secure

Apply a ready-made security profile or a reusable template, and add accommodations.

Step 4

Pre-check

Devices and students are validated before the exam: hardware, connection and identity.

Step 5

Monitor

Follow attendance, live streams and incidents. Extend time when a student needs it.

Step 6

Report

Review the timeline and recordings, then export the event report.

Integrations

No new exam builder to learn

Teachers keep building exams where they already do. Examo frames and records them, and plugs into the systems your institution already runs.

  • MoodleA "Require the Examo app" option in the quiz settings. Question banks and random draws keep working.
  • Microsoft 365, Teams and OutlookSingle sign-on, an Exams tab in Teams, a "Take the exam" link in the Outlook calendar event, storage in your own Teams and SharePoint.
  • Student information systemExams, groups and students synchronized automatically from your SIS or ERP.
  • Documents and external applicationsWord, Excel or PDF exams opened in the Examo app, or any exam application reached by URL with single sign-on.
